What makes hauling in Melbourne different
Placement is tighter here than it looks
Barrier-island and older mainland lots run short and narrow. Through Melbourne Beach, Indialantic, Indian Harbour Beach, Satellite Beach, Historic Downtown Melbourne and Melbourne Village you get drives one car wide, plenty of them shell or paver rather than poured concrete, and a screen enclosure or pool cage over the back of the house that a hoist arm must never swing across. Add the HOA and condo rules in Suntree, Viera, Baytree and the beachside associations — placement limits, day limits, sometimes an approval step. Block, stucco and terrazzo weigh
Most of Brevard is 1960s to 2000s slab-on-grade concrete block and stucco, with drywall on furring strips inside and older 1920s–1950s stock only in Historic Downtown Melbourne, Eau Gallie and parts of Melbourne Beach. Everything sits on a slab, so the debris comes out of the garage, the attic, the Florida room or lanai, the screen room and the shed — plus the rented unit everybody forgets they are still paying for. What catches people is the dense material: block, stucco, concrete pool deck, pavers and the terrazzo hiding under the carpet in half the mid-century houses. A room that would fill a 20 with light debris can blow past tonnage well before the can looks full. Pre-1980 houses also turn up asbestos in popcorn and textured ceilings, floor tile and mastic and pipe insulation, and pre-1978 homes carry lead paint under the EPA RRP rule — demolition generally triggers a NESHAP inspection and notification, and we cannot take asbestos-containing material in any container. Hurricane season sets the calendar
June 1 to November 30, every year. Nobody here has forgotten Matthew in 2016, Irma in 2017, or Ian and then Nicole in 2022 — Nicole chewed the dune line from Satellite Beach down through Indialantic. Wind-driven rain, storm surge, torn soffit and fascia, flattened screen cages and downed vegetation put the whole county on the phone in the same week, and the mould window after water intrusion is roughly 24 to 48 hours. Re-roofs run year-round on top of that — the insurance market and the Florida Building Code’s wind-uplift and secondary-water-barrier rules keep them coming, and the 25 percent rule on roof repairs turns a lot of patches into full replacements. Weight, and keeping yard trash separate
Sandy soil and a high water table move flatwork around here, so driveways, pool decks and patios get broken out and re-poured constantly — and broken concrete, block, barrel tile, pavers, terrazzo, sod with sand attached and landscape rock at roughly 2,400–2,800 lbs per cubic yard all hit legal transport weight in a container that still looks half empty. That material belongs in a 10 yard, twice, not a 30 once. Separately, Florida keeps yard trash out of the solid waste stream, so palm fronds, limbs, grass and hedge trimmings ride as their own clean load to a yard-waste or mulching facility rather than mixed into a construction load. How fast can you deliver a dumpster in Melbourne?
Most of the time, same day if you call before about 11am, and next morning otherwise. We run our own trucks out of 5060 Industry Dr in Melbourne, so we are not waiting on a dispatcher two counties away. In the week after a storm comes through, or during the spring condo turnover rush, it can stretch to 48 hours, and we will tell you honestly when you call.
What does a flat rate actually include?
Delivery, pickup, an agreed rental period and a set tonnage allowance with disposal included. No fuel surcharge, no environmental fee, no admin fee. The only way the number changes is if you go over the weight allowance or keep the container longer than agreed, and we tell you both limits before we deliver.
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
No. Plenty of our customers text us a photo of where they want it and go to work. All we need is clear access, a spot free of cars and low branches, and permission to be on the property. If the only way in is a short beachside drive, a shell or paver apron, or a gate under a screen enclosure, tell us when you book and we will schedule accordingly.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We put protection boards under the wheels and rails on every residential delivery, which spreads the load instead of concentrating it on four small contact patches. The Brevard County complication is what is under the slab — sand and a high water table, which means an apron can already be cracked or settled long before a truck arrives, so we photograph the existing condition on delivery. Paver and shell drives get extra boards, and after a heavy wet-season week we would rather come back a day later than rut soft ground with a loaded can. Our placement guide explains it fully.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Melbourne?
On your own driveway, generally no municipal permit. In the public street or right-of-way you usually do, through the City of Melbourne — or FDOT on a state route like US-1, US-192 or A1A. West Melbourne, Palm Bay, the beachside towns, Rockledge, Cocoa, Titusville and unincorporated Brevard County each run their own process. The one people forget is the HOA or condo association: Suntree, Viera, Baytree and most beachside associations set their own placement rules and day limits on top of anything the city asks for. What can I not put in the dumpster?
Wet paint, solvents, motor oil, fuel, pesticides, asbestos-containing material, propane and other pressurised cylinders, lead-acid batteries, medical waste, tires and appliances. Pool chemicals belong in the same category, and leftover paint, solvents, fuel and pesticides go to a Brevard County household hazardous waste drop-off rather than in the can. Florida also keeps yard trash out of the solid waste stream — palm fronds, limbs, grass and hedge trimmings go to a yard-waste or mulching facility as their own clean load, never mixed into a construction load. Everything else on a normal cleanout or renovation is fine. Rules do change, so ask us before it goes in.
