Local knowledge

Why the jurisdiction matters more here than most places

Every city here runs its own rulebook

The container goes on your own property whenever we can manage it. Put it on the street or the swale and you are into a right-of-way process, and the City of Melbourne, West Melbourne, Palm Bay, Rockledge, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Indialantic, Satellite Beach and unincorporated Brevard County each run their own version of it. Exterior work on the older stock in Historic Downtown Melbourne, the Eau Gallie Arts District or on Melbourne Beach can pick up an extra review step before a shingle comes off. And in Suntree, Viera, Baytree and the beachside condo associations the HOA has placement rules, day limits and sometimes an approval of its own. Rules get amended, so confirm with the city and the association before you book. See the Melbourne permit guide.

Where it actually goes

Florida keeps yard trash separate from solid waste, so palm fronds, limbs, grass and hedge trimmings leave as a separate clean load bound for a yard-waste or mulching facility — mix them into a demolition load and the whole container gets reclassified or turned away at the scale. Electronics, tires, appliances and other white goods, used oil and lead-acid batteries stay out of the can as well, and leftover paint, solvents, fuel, pesticides and pool chemicals belong at a Brevard County household hazardous waste drop-off, not in the container. Clean concrete is crushed to aggregate, and scrap metal and clean wood are recovered, so separating pays. See where it goes.

Block, terrazzo and what is under the carpet

Most of the county is 1960s to 2000s slab-on-grade concrete block and stucco, drywall on furring strips inside, and a fair number of mid-century floors that turn out to be terrazzo once the carpet comes up. That makes the debris dense — block, stucco, terrazzo, pool deck and barrel tile fill a container by weight long before volume. The older 1920s to 1950s stock is concentrated in Historic Downtown Melbourne, Eau Gallie and parts of Melbourne Beach, with 1960s and 70s ranches along the barrier island. Pre-1980 houses regularly turn up asbestos in popcorn and textured ceilings, floor tile and mastic and pipe insulation, and pre-1978 means lead paint under the EPA RRP rule. We cannot take asbestos-containing material in any container, and demolition generally triggers a NESHAP inspection and notification. Read the construction and demolition debris guide first.

Sand, shell drives and screen cages

Sandy soil and a high water table mean a loaded truck ruts soft ground in one pass, and through the wet season from June into September the afternoon storms leave turf that will not carry weight for a day or two afterwards. Summer heat softens asphalt, which is why protection boards go down under every drop as standard. Beachside in Melbourne Beach, Indialantic, Indian Harbour Beach and Satellite Beach the driveways are short and narrow, often shell or paver, and there is usually a pool cage the arm has to stay clear of. Out west toward Malabar, Grant-Valkaria and Deer Run it is long sand lanes, gates a truck cannot swing wide enough for, and wells and septic fields that have to be marked. Our drivers know which of those a loaded truck can commit to. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and after a declared storm the county right-of-way contractors take vegetative debris from the kerb on their own schedule — that is a slow queue, and it does not touch soffit, fascia, drywall, screen cage or anything you carry out of the house yourself. That is what a container on your own property is for, and the mould window after water intrusion is roughly 24 to 48 hours. See the hurricane debris cleanup guide.

Service Area FAQs

Do you charge extra to deliver outside Melbourne?

No. Every city and community listed on this page sits inside our standard service area and the flat rate is the same as it is in Melbourne. Delivery, pickup, your rental window and disposal up to the agreed tonnage are all in the number we quote you on the phone.

How far do you actually go?

Roughly a 30 mile radius from our Industry Drive yard, which covers Brevard County end to end and the north half of Indian River County — Titusville at the top, Sebastian at the bottom, both sides of the Indian River Lagoon, and the groves and acreage out past Malabar and Grant-Valkaria. We go further for multi-container jobs and contractor accounts. If your address is not on the list, call and ask — and if we cannot reach you we will usually know who can.

Can you deliver out to Malabar, Grant-Valkaria or the Deer Run area?

Yes, with a conversation first. Long sand lanes, gates a truck cannot swing wide enough for, septic tanks and drain fields, and ground that stays soft for a day or two after a wet-season storm all affect which container we can get in and where it can safely sit. Mark the septic field and the well head before we arrive. Tell us the address when you call and we will tell you honestly what will and will not work.

Which parts of Melbourne do you cover?

All of it. Our yard is on Industry Drive, so Suntree, Viera, Baytree, Historic Downtown Melbourne, the Eau Gallie Arts District, Melbourne Square, The Avenue Viera and Hammock Landing over in West Melbourne are all short runs, and the beachside is a few minutes more across the Eau Gallie or Melbourne Causeway. Placement is what is worth a sentence on the phone: barrier-island driveways are short, narrow and often shell or paver, there is usually a screen enclosure the arm has to clear, and in Suntree, Viera and Baytree the association may have something to say about where the container sits and for how long. Give us the address and we will have it sorted before the truck leaves.
