20 Yard Dumpster Rental in Melbourne, CO
Twenty-two feet of box with a four-and-a-half-foot side. It clears a garage and attic, carries a whole-room-plus remodel or a mid-size tear-off, and still fits a typical Melbourne driveway where a 30 simply will not go. Most jobs in Brevard land right here.
A 20 yard is 22 feet long, 8 feet wide and about four and a half feet tall, six to eight pickup loads, and it is the container we drop more than any other in Brevard County. Big enough for a real job and small enough to sit on a real Melbourne driveway. When you genuinely do not know what to book, this is the safe answer.

Why people choose the 20 yard
The 20 earns its keep on the jobs that do not fit a category. A garage and attic cleared out at once, a Florida room stripped back to the block, a kitchen and two bathrooms in the same month, a mid-size tear-off on a Suntree or West Melbourne roof. Four and a half feet of rail is still low enough to load by hand, and 22 feet of steel sits on most suburban drives without eating the whole apron. Our Melbourne dumpster sizing guide sends more readers to this size than to any other, and for good reason.
Spring is the other reason. Snowbirds leave around Easter and condo turnovers cluster hard from March through May — furniture, mattresses, lanai screening, carpet and forty years of storage out of a garage or a rented unit. That debris is bulky rather than dense, so volume is the constraint and a 20 usually absorbs a full unit in one drop. See junk removal and estate cleanout for how we stage those weeks, because a swap booked late in season is a swap you wait on.
It is also the size that fits when a 30 does not. Same footprint, eighteen inches less side wall, and that is often the difference between a box that clears the garage door swing and one that does not. Older Melbourne and Eau Gallie streets, beachside lots and tight Suntree cul-de-sacs all favour it. Middle-range demolition — a lanai, a carport, a small addition — lands here too, and our demolition debris page covers what mixes into one load and what has to stay separate.

Will it fit?
Allow about 60 feet of straight approach for the truck and the tilt, roughly 10 and a half feet of width, and at least 20 feet of overhead clearance for the hoist arm. Live oak limbs, sabal palm fronds and low service drops are the most common reason we have to move a placement, so check the whole approach before delivery day. The arm never passes over a screen enclosure or pool cage. Sandy soil and wet-season softness rut under a loaded truck, paver and shell drives get protection boards as standard, and short barrier-island drives often take a 10 better. Flag septic tanks and drainfields on acreage near Malabar and Grant-Valkaria.
Before delivery, move cars and bins, mark irrigation heads and septic lids, and tell us about new concrete, soft ground, a steep grade or low power lines. Our delivery and driveway protection guide covers all of it.

Why is the 20 yard the most common size in Melbourne?
Because it is the middle of the market and Brevard jobs cluster there. Garage and attic clear-outs, one-and-a-half room remodels, lanai demo, mid-size tear-offs and spring condo turnovers all fit inside it, and it still sits on a normal suburban driveway without blocking the garage. Bigger boxes buy volume you may never use and need access many local lots do not have. When somebody describes a project on the phone without knowing the size, this is the container that turns out to be right most often.
Will a 20 yard fit on a normal Melbourne driveway?
Usually yes. Twenty-two feet of box on a typical Suntree, Viera or West Melbourne drive leaves room to walk past and generally clears the garage door swing. Beachside is where it gets tight — drives in Melbourne Beach and Indialantic are often short, narrow and shell or paver, and a 10 or a 15 sits better. Send us a photo of the driveway and the approach and we will tell you before the truck rolls, which saves everybody a wasted trip.
Can I mix furniture, carpet and drywall in a 20 yard?
Yes, general construction and household debris ride together fine. What has to stay out is vegetative debris — Florida separates yard trash from solid waste, so palm fronds, limbs and hedge trimmings go as a separate clean load or the whole load gets reclassified at the scale. Appliances with refrigerant, tyres, batteries, paint, solvents and household chemicals stay out too; Brevard County runs household hazardous waste drop-offs for those. Requirements change, so confirm current rules with the county before you load.
How long can I keep a 20 yard dumpster?
Long enough to finish the job, and we would rather have the real schedule than the optimistic one. Remodels stretch, weather stops work, and swap-outs go on the calendar the day before rather than the morning of. HOAs in Suntree, Viera, Baytree and the beachside condo associations sometimes set their own day limits on containers, and those get amended, so confirm with your association before delivery. If you finish early we will collect early — a box sitting idle in your driveway helps nobody.
Should I book a 20 or a 30 for a house remodel?
If the work is one to two rooms and you are loading by hand, take the 20 — the lower rail earns its money in Florida heat. If it is three or more rooms, a full flooring pull plus cabinetry, or a machine is doing the loading, step up to a 30 yard dumpster. Same footprint, more air above it. The one thing that never changes the answer is dense material: block, terrazzo and tile belong in a 10, however big the job is.
