Twenty-two feet of box with eight feet of side wall — the largest roll-off we run and the most particular about what goes in it. On the Space Coast it is the screen enclosure box first and foremost, and it wants a site with genuine room. Never for dense material.
A 40 yard is 22 feet long, 8 feet wide and a full eight feet tall — fourteen to sixteen pickup loads. It is the biggest box on the truck and the one we talk people out of most often, because eight feet of side is only an advantage when the debris is bulky and light. Load it dense and nobody lifts it.

Why people choose the 40 yard
The aluminium screen enclosure is the signature 40 yard job on the Space Coast. A pool cage is enormously bulky and almost weightless: extrusion, kickplate, screen mesh and fasteners that fill a container by volume and barely register at the scale. Nearly every house here has one, and after Ian and then Nicole a great many came down at once. Nothing else we run swallows a full cage in a single drop. Commercial work is the rest of the book. Warehouse and industrial clear-outs along Sarno Road and the Melbourne Orlando International Airport corridor, retail strip-outs on New Haven Avenue, office furniture, racking, ceiling tile and ductwork, and large light-material demolition all use the volume honestly. Then there is access, and this is where most 40 yard requests end. The box wants 22 feet of level ground, roughly 60 feet of straight approach and eight feet of side you have to get debris over, which in practice means a machine or a dock. Barrier-island lots in Melbourne Beach, Indialantic and Indian Harbour Beach simply cannot take one, and plenty of older Eau Gallie streets cannot either. When the honest answer is no, a 30 yard dumpster on swaps beats a 40 that never gets delivered.

Will it fit?
Nothing about this box forgives a tight site. Plan on roughly 60 feet of straight approach, about 10 and a half feet of width, and well over 20 feet of overhead for the hoist — more than any other size, because the arm carries the box higher. Live oak limbs, sabal palm and service drops rule it out on most residential streets. The arm never swings over a screen enclosure or pool cage, even when the cage is the thing coming down. Sandy soil and wet-season ground rut hard, protection boards are standard on paver and shell drives, and short barrier-island drives are simply out. Flag the septic tank and drainfield on Malabar and Grant-Valkaria acreage.

What can I not put in a 40 yard dumpster?
Anything dense. Concrete, block, stucco rubble, terrazzo, tile, sand, fill and roofing shingle all go overweight with a 40 barely a quarter full, so the driver cannot legally lift it and the load has to come back out by hand. Vegetative yard trash has to be a separate clean load under Florida's separation rule, and we cannot take asbestos-containing material in any container. When the pile is heavy, a 10 yard dumpster on next-day swaps is the correct answer, not a bigger box.
Is a 40 yard the right size for a screen enclosure tear-down?
It is the size the job was made for. A pool cage is aluminium extrusion and screen mesh — huge in volume, almost nothing on the scale — so eight feet of side height is exactly the capacity you want and the payload limit never comes near. The catch is the concrete: pool deck, footers and coping are dense and belong in a separate small box. Will a 40 yard dumpster fit at a house in Melbourne?
On most beachside and older-neighbourhood properties, no. It needs about 22 feet of level ground, roughly 60 feet of straight approach and serious overhead clearance, and short shell or paver drives in Melbourne Beach, Indialantic and Indian Harbour Beach rarely offer any of that. Do I need a permit for a 40 yard dumpster in Melbourne?
On private property, generally no. Street or right-of-way placement usually requires city approval, and a container this size is very unlikely to be permitted on a public street in the older parts of town or anywhere beachside. Commercial and industrial sites often carry their own site requirements as well. How do I load a container with eight-foot sides?
With equipment or from height, not by hand. Eight feet of side wall means a skid steer, a telehandler, a loading ramp or a walk-off point at a dock — throwing debris over that rail all day in Brevard heat is not a plan a crew survives. Most of our 40 yard boxes go to sites that already have a machine on them. If you are loading by hand, take a 30 or a 20 instead; the lower rail more than repays the volume you give away.
